ANDREA LECOS / Bio
Though the majority of my time is spent as a freelance graphic artist, I've spent many years experimenting with watercolor, lino-cut prints and acrylic, as well as fine pencil/pen. Nature, music and influences on the human condition stimulate my muse. I often assimilate mixed-media into my artwork, combining any of the following: graphics, illustration, lino-cut prints, acrylic, handmade paper, glass, found objects & poetry. I find that mixed-media gives me the artistic freedom and ability to create more textural diversity.
I have an ever-growing line of greeting cards & prints, under the name (ARTEMISIA CARDS & PRINTS). I also plan on expanding my line into artful stickers and calendars. I sell both via consignment and wholesale. Please inquire.
I have been working as a graphic designer since 2003. I love working with local and regional clients so that I can engage personally, develop a relationship and watch their business/products grow first-hand (hopefully continuing to be a part of their growth). I employ digital graphic arts as-well-as illustration as needed. My "style" is a reflection of the client's needs and so, aesthetically my style can be quite diverse.
Though I've taken art classes and/or have played with various media for half a lifetime, my educational background is more scientific, with a B.S. in Biology/Microbiology, M.A. in Landscape Design, and I am also a certified Horticultural Therapist. Botany, Forestry & Geology were areas of extra focus. I've also been a musician all of my life. A few of the places I've been fortunate to work: U.S. National Arboretum (D.C.), Winkler Botanical Preserve (VA), Butte Botanica (CO), Smithsonian-Folkways (D.C.), National Council for the Traditional Arts (DC), Folk Masters (DC), National Folk Festival (D.C.), National Health Labs (VA), plus several organic farms. I am still the principal of a landscape design business (Artemisia Landscape Design). I have also used botany, horticultural therapy & art to work with preschool kids, as well as people in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.
I grew up in Virginia, wandering the Shenandoah, Blue Ridge & Appalachian mountains... climbing rock walls, dropping into caves and backpacking. It is also where I cultivated my love and influences for Bluegrass, Old-time and Americana music - a big part of my life - and perform in a band called HARD PRESSED, playing clawhammer banjo, guitar, singing and songwriting along with my husband.
The West always called and I've lived in Colorado for 26yrs and counting. I currently live in a small, rural Colorado town filled with organic wineries, organic farms and a lot of artists. I live with my husband & amazing dogs, exploring mountains, desert canyons, rivers and the wonders of life.
